PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday formally launched the province’s first online treatment centre, called Tele Medicines Centre, in a village of Manshera district, in an effort to offer best healthcare facilities to people under the supervision of senior expert doctors.

KP Health Minister Shehram Khan Taraqai inaugurated the pilot project and assured that such centres would also be established in remote areas of the province to provide best healthcare facilities to masses at their doorstep.

He said that the project was part of the provincial government’s e-governance efforts, while adding that the centre would provide facilities to approximately 23,000 people of the area through online services.

Taraqai further said that the use of technology could help save the precious lives of poor people who were not able to travel to settled areas to avail best medical facilities. The minister said that the new Tele Medicines Centre would be connected with a central control room in Peshawar, through which doctors would be made available 24/7.
