LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir on Saturday has said that PU has turned 135 and the time to eliminate pessimistic elements from the university and to put it on the road to excellence has come.
He made these comments while addressing the first graduation ceremony of students of its Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) BS Honours programme at PU’s auditorium. The ceremony was attended by Behavioral and Social Sciences Faculty Dean and ISCS Director Professor Dr Zakria Zakar, renowned sociologist Dr Anwar, Department of Public Health Chairperson Dr Rubina Zakar, faculty members and students.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Nasir said that the government had recognized the importance of the subject of sociology and there were a lot of opportunities for students to excel in this field. He said that ISCS was being headed by the dynamic leadership of Professor Dr Zakria Zakar who had contributed toward strengthening and broadening the subject in the country.
He said that Professor Zakar was contributing towards academic excellence of the university. He advised the students to work for their country’s development and prosperity and to keep PU’s flag high.
Addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Zakria Zakar congratulated the parents of the students, calling them the “real winners” at the occasion. He said that the countless and untiring efforts of the parents were at the foundation of the graduates’ success.
He further commented that PU’s VC Dr Nasir understood the importance of social sciences and had always extended his support for the institution’s academic and developmental projects. He observed that 90 percent of the faculty members in sociology departments across the province had been students of ISCS.
Later, degrees were awarded to the 110 graduating students of BS Honours Sociology, session 2013-2017, and medals were distributed among the position holders.
