ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted a death sentence convict giving him the benefit of doubt.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa heard the case.

Shoukat Sagheer was held for alleged murder of a man in Korangi area of Karachi. The trial court had handed him life imprisonment which was maintained by the high court.

During the course of proceedings, the counsel for accused told the apex court that his client was awarded sentence even though the prosecution had failed to submit solid evidence against his client.

Justice Khosa remarked that prosecution had failed to submit any evidence in the case.

The court therefore ordered to acquit the accused and disposed of the case.
