Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) on Friday expressed concern over violation of merit in selection for vice-chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro by the Sindh government.

PMA Secretary General Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, in his statement, said once again the Sindh government has ignored the merit list in appointing vice chancellor at Liaquat University. He said the fact was that the search committee for the vice chancellor selected three candidates and Prof Abdul Razzak Shaikh was selected as number-1, having 7 marks more than the second candidate.

Unfortunately Sindh chief minister did not accept search committee’s merit list. He moved a summary to the Sindh governor for the appointment of VC in favour of the candidate, who was on number 2 in the merit list.

Dr Qaisar Sajjad said the appointments based on violating the merit have created a lot of problems in the past, as far as the smooth running of the institution was concerned.

He said PMA believed and reiterated that the Sindh government should give priority to merit and select a candidate who has stood first in the merit list by the efforts of search committee.
