Over a million girls still out of school in KP

PESHAWAR: Around one million girls, between the ages of five and 16, are still out of school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Despite tall claims made by the provincial government regarding improving the state of education, especially for girls, a total of 1,519,371 children were still out of schools across the province, which included 1,014,419 girls and 504,952 boys.

According to the KP Elementary and Secondary Education Department ‘Out of School Children’ survey conducted in 2016, the number of children between the ages of five and 16 in the province was found to be 7,472,348, out of which 5,952,977 were enrolled in different educational institutions. The survey was conducted in over four million households in all 25 districts of the province.
