LAHORE: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) and University of the Punjab (PU) for structured engagement and collaborative activities, in order to increase awareness about women’s rights and engage PU students in research efforts pertaining to women’s empowerment.
According to a PCSW spokesman, another aim of the collaboration was to increase the use of research already conducted by the PCSW among university students and faculty. Through the MoU, the PCSW and PU would conduct seminars, awareness-raising and knowledge-building sessions, internships, research work and promotional activities.
On the occasion, PCSW Chairperson Fauzia Viqar said that students should be sensitised on women’s rights and laws, which were considered an asset in the movement to bring about tolerance, social justice and progress in the society.
The collaboration would also provide opportunities for students to explore new areas of research, which would add to their knowledge and expertise, she added.
She said that working together to produce research would aid informed policy-making in Punjab and the PCSW had agreed to provide support to the PU academia for development of a module on women’s empowerment.
Fauzia Viqar said that the youth in Pakistan need opportunities to polish their skills and build their capacity on social justice and human rights issues.
