National Assembly Speaker, Dr Fehmida Mirza has urged the World Health Organization, World Health Departments and NGOs working in the Health Sector for concerted efforts for awareness among the masses against the Hepatitis disease.
She called for joining hands to stop the spread of this chronic disease. She expressed these views in her message on World Hepatitis Day being commemorated throughout the world today.
She said that this day served us an opportunity to educate and inform the masses and policy makers about the preventions diagnoses and treatment of Hepatitis. She said that in developing countries like Pakistan the prevalence of Hepatitis is high. She said that polluted water, illegal industrial poisonous, water discharge, environmental pollution unsafe and unscreened blood transfusion and used syringes were the main reasons of the disease.
She said that government has taken various steps to control this chronic disease. She asked the Ministry of Health and Provincial Health Departments to take appropriate steps to control increasing of Hepatitis and provide diagnostic and treatment facilities for Hepatitis patients at all hospitals specially in the rural area of the country on priority basis.
