KARACHI: Sindh Rangers on Monday have submitted a request in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) to indict Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Rauf Siddiqui in the Baldia Town factory fire case.
Sindh Rangers told the court that the prime suspect of the case Rehman Bhola, 46, had disclosed Siddiqui’s involvement in the incident, adding that Siddiqui’s name was also included in the report of the Baldia case joint investigation team.
However, police said in a report submitted to the court that they had no proof against the MQM leader.
Bhola had said earlier that the factory was deliberately set ablaze on the orders of MQM leader Hammad Siddiqui for the non-payment of extortion money. The fire killed at least 259 workers in the garment factory in Karachi’s Baldia Town area.
Rahman was arrested in December 2016 in Bangkok by Interpol. About 40 commandos raided a room at the Royal Garden Home Hotel in Soi Nana and arrested Abdul Rehman alias Bhola.
The Federal Investigation Agency brought Abdul Rahman alias Bhola to Karachi from Bangkok later on.
