ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry said on Friday there is no legal value of the Justice Baqar Najafi Commission Report on the Model Town incident.

Speaking to journalists, Chaudhry said that the maximum the report can lead to is lodging of an FIR [First Information Report] and a trial, both of which had already happened.

He also questioned the decision of only one commission report being made public and went on to suggest that all such commission reports that have not been disclosed should be made public and their recommendations implemented. He pointed out that by only disclosing the Najafi report, the Sharif family and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are being targeted.

He went on to add that it was anticipated that after Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be targeted, which is the case now. He was referring to the abrupt reopening of the Hudaibiya Mills case and the Model Town case.

Without naming any individual or institution, Chaudhry said ‘magicians’ should learn that by targeting the genuine political leadership through artificial means and making an alternative political leadership through weak politicians is not good for the stability of Pakistan.

The state minister also warned that the prevailing political uncertainty in the country will harm the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

  1. Let the People be the judge of the report when it comes out. Why has it taken so long to be made public.? This is probably the first time in Pakistan’s history that public is demanding truth and transparency and seem to be getting it.
