PA passes 5 bills, grants extension to 3 ordinances

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly (PA) on Wednesday passed five bills and granted a 90-day extension to three ordinances.

Moved by provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan, the House passed the Police Order (Amendment) Bill 2017, Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children (Amendment) Bill 2017, Rawalpindi Medical University Bill 2017, Faisalabad Medical University Bill 2017 and Nishtar Medical University Bill 2017.

Besides, law minister and lawmakers from treasury and opposition benches debated the bills.

The House, through three adopted resolutions, granted a 90-day extension to the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Ordinance 2017, the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance 2017 and the Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority Ordinance 2017.

Upon queries regarding the National Action Plan (NAP) by Mian Tariq Mehmood, Dr Naushin, Saadia Sohail Rana, the parliamentary secretary said that since the subject fell under the jurisdiction of federal government, he was not able to answer the questions. However, he told the House that the law and order situation was fully under control and operation against terrorists and other hardened criminals was successfully underway.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mian Mehmood-ur-Rashid pointed out the quorum that led to the suspension of proceedings. However, the quorum was found incomplete on resumption of the proceedings and the Speaker adjourned the sitting till next morning on Thursday.
