ISLAMABAD: Defence Ministry has moved a summary containing names of four senior officers of Pakistan Navy (PN) for the appointment of the new naval chief.
The incumbent Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zakaullah is going to retire on October 8, 2017.
Sources said that the names of Vice Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Vice Admiral Syed Arifullah Hussaini, Vice Admiral Shah Sohail Masood and Vice Admiral Waseem Karam were under consideration for the top post.
Defence Minister Khurram Dastagir confirmed sending a summary to prime minister (PM) for the appointment of the new chief of naval forces.
“I can only tell that a summary containing names of senior-most officers of Navy has been sent to the prime minister,” said the defence minister, adding that the president on the recommendation of the PM will appoint the new boss of PN.
