KARACHI: Pakistani artist Tassaduq Sohail was admitted to Civil Hospital, Karachi in a critical condition and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Tuesday.

He was brought from Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, to Karachi today, according to details. However,  he does not have any family members attending on him at the hospital and hence the doctors do not have access to his medical history.

Born in Jalandhar in 1930, Tassaduq Sohail went on to study at London-based Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
He spent 40 years in London and eventually shifted to Karachi. Being a short-story writer, a striking feature of his works is the titles of his paintings. They seem to have a profound connection with the images, depicting the cynicism and the scorn of the artist.

A remarkable feature is his ability to say a lot in very limited space. His work is almost in miniature style, painting fetching details on minute canvases. He once claimed that the best of his works stemmed from bouts of depression.

His work is primarily famous for being narrative and is laden with symbols. Trees, caves, old castles, fish, mermaids, and nudes often appear in his paintings and he has been said to have taken inspiration from Picasso, van Goth, Ustad Allah Buksh, Colin David, Amrita Shergill and Sadequain.
