Rangers nab ‘terrorist’ affiliated with Lashkar-e-Balochistan

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers have arrested an alleged militant belonging to Lashkar-e-Balochistan, said a Rangers spokesman on Friday.

The suspect, identified as Maheem Khan, has been part of the banned outfit since 2012 and wanted to security agencies in many cases.

He was the mastermind of a bomb blast near a cement factory in Hub along with an involvement in the attack on an irrigation department vehicle in 2014, the spokesman said.

In July 2016, the suspect carried out a grenade attack on a police van in Galaxy Town. Moreover, he was also part of another grenade attack on an under-construction building on Bawany Road on January 15. The accused also set a university student’s car on fire on April 15.

Arms, ammunition, bullets and explosives material have also been seized from the suspect’s possession.

Furthermore, an alleged criminal was shot dead, another succumbed to injuries following his arrest, and 15 others detained during various search operations being carried out early Friday morning in different localities of Karachi.

One suspect was killed Thursday night during a police encounter as he attempted to rob citizens in Orangi Town’s Sector 9E area, police officials said.

Meanwhile, an alleged criminal was shot dead, another succumbed to injuries following his arrest, and 15 others were detained during various search operations carried out on Thursday night in different localities of the metropolis.

Law enforcement agencies raided a gambling den in Karachi’s Chanesar Goth and took 15 suspects in custody, police officers explained.

An operation, which was underway in the city’s Patel Para area late Thursday night, is now complete; leading law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to take 10 alleged suspects into custody for questioning. A door-to-door search is being carried out in order to apprehend suspected criminals, security officials revealed. The operation was a joint effort of LEAs, including Karachi police and Rangers.
