HYDERABAD: Renowned scholar, writer, educationist, philanthropist, and intellectual Leelawati Harchandani, popularly known as ‘Dadi Leela’, passed away on Thursday morning after a prolonged illness.
Her last rituals were performed at the Cremation Ground near Badin bus stop Hyderabad.
Dadi Leela had received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her services in education as well as other related fields. She had also served as Member Minority Affairs of the Federal Ministry of Religious and Minority Affairs, deputy commissioner of Girls Guides Sindh and chairperson of Ladies Club, Hyderabad.
Leela became a member of the Sindh Assembly in 1985 and worked for spreading of education with great zeal, visiting different neighbourhoods and villages to encourage women to seek education.
