Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said Pakistan wants to tell the world that it has been fighting the war against terror efficiently, adding that the country fought this war through its own resources, not with US assistance.

Speaking with Geo News on Thursday, he said the US has been conveyed that it should change its ways in the region, noting that it has already been 16 years of fighting in Afghanistan with no results.

A better understanding was required as to where does the country stand on its foreign policy and suggestion were sought at the conference of Pakistani envoys held in Islamabad a few days ago, he added.

The foreign minister clarified that talks were held on Afghanistan and bilateral relations during his visit to China, Iran and Turkey.

“After China, I went to Iran, there too there were concerns over new US policy for South Asia,” he said, adding that he met President Rouhani, as well as other Iranian officials, and there was harmony on the Afghan issue.

About his visit to the US, the minister said he is likely to stay there for 12-13 days, during which he would hold meetings with his Russian and Afghan counterparts. “A meeting would also be held with Afghan president Ashraf Ghani.”

Discussing Haqqani Network, he said it operates in eastern Afghanistan.

Talking about the country’s security situation, the minister said Pakistan has been kept engaged on its borders with Afghanistan and India, adding, “We are aware of external threats, but the internal ones are more serious”.

On Rohingya issue, the minister said he does not think that China is siding with Myanmar over the issue.
