Police in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will establish an integrated database system which can be accessed fast and safely by investigators of member states, so as to support the fight against terrorism, a police officer said on Thursday.

The police in ASEAN member nations have agreed to set up the electronic Aseanapol database system (e-ADS) as supporting facility to battle militants and other transnational crimes, according to Head of Crime Unit of Indonesian National Police Senior Commissioner Ari Dono Sukmanto, who is attending the 37th Aseanapol conference in Singapore.

“The plan to establish the system aims at facilitating exchanges of intelligence information fast and safely with more accuracy,” he was quoted by Bisnis.com as saying.

Suicide attacks and penetration of radicalism as well as other transnational crimes have been the major challenges for the law enforcers in the region, he said.

“The sophisticated information technology in the firm of e-ADS is one of the solutions for the challenges,” said Ari.
