LAHORE: The Punjab University (PU) spokesman has clarified a news item published in Pakistan Today in which it was said that PU Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir was strengthening Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) and Tanzeem-e-Asaatza in the university.
In his press statement, the PU spokesman said that when the vice chancellor took charge, he announced a 7-point merit policy and strictly implemented parameters to bring university in the top 500 universities of the world. He said that all the administrative decisions had been taken without influence of Jamaat or IJT and the vice chancellor had ensured neutrality in all such matters.
He said that on the directions of the vice chancellor, the employees who were awaiting promotions since many years had been promoted strictly on merit basis and not even a single complaint had been received in this regard. He said that the vice chancellor had timely taken all necessary disciplinary actions against the students who were found involved in violation of university discipline without any discrimination.
He further said that the biometric system was being implemented at hostels and all the hostels were free from the control of any student organisation. He said that the VC had ensured transparency in hostel affairs and all the matters were being run under a system. Therefore, the allegation that the management of hostels had been taken over by IJT was out of question, he added.
The spokesman also said that the VC was taking decisions on merit which had annoyed those elements who were alien to such system and used to pressurise administrations in the past for fulfillment of their illegal demands. The spokesman said that these elements again want to pressurise the incumbent administration but it was clarified that the administration had strong nerves and would not bow to any pressure. The spokesman said that the time had come to make the university apolitical; the administration would continue implementing its merit policy, he added.
