The PPP-led coalition government has always consulted all political forces on major national issues and succeeded in building a consensus national policy, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza said on Sunday.
While talking to Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, the prime minister said the government was pursuing a policy of reconciliation and respected the mandate of each party. He said the government, while upholding the supremacy of parliament, was ensuring respect for all institutions. “We are determined to strengthen the country’s democratic institutions,” he added.
Gilani said that the recent marathon joint session of parliament and a consensus national policy spoke volumes about the political maturity of the country’s leadership. “Since the inception of this government, the armed forces have briefed parliament for the second time, and this time, they faced probing questions while briefing the parliamentarians on the Abbottabad incident,” Gilani said.
He asked the Punjab governor to ensure political stability in the province. Khosa said the briefing by the armed forces on an important national issue was unprecedented and vividly showed that democracy in Pakistan was on the right track.
