LAHORE: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday barred Punjab Minister for Food, Bilal Yasin, from taking part in political activities for the upcoming by-election of NA-120, Lahore.
A five-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza in a hearing said that such participation by the minister was a violation of the electoral code of conduct and directed the minister not to participate further campaign.
The commission directed the minister to implement the code of conduct for the by-election in true spirit.
The CEC said that the commission had received a complaint regarding minister’s participation through its monitoring team. He said that the minister had participated in election’s rally at Mohni Road Lahore.
The CEC said that the commission has a video in which one can clearly see the minister’s presence in the rally.
The CEC in his remarks said that no one has been stopped to visit the minister’s house at Mohni Road Lahore but the minister has been stopped to participate in political activities of bye-election.
Bilal Yasin’s counsel argued that people keep visiting his residence as he is a provincial minister and that he didn’t attend any by-election rally.
ECP DIRECTS TO INSTALL CCTV CAMERAS AT ALL POLLING STATIONS OF NA-120:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed the Punjab chief secretary to install CCTV cameras at all polling stations of constituency NA-120 and printing press Lahore for upcoming by-election.
According to the ECP, through a letter, the chief secretary had been asked to immediately install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at Printing Corporation of Pakistan, Lahore and polling stations of the concerned constituency NA-120, Lahore.
