450 still seeking treatment, says KP health minister
PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Health, Shahram Khan Tarkai said on Thursday that 18 patients have died due to dengue virus so far in Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) and 450 patients were still admitted in different hospitals of the province; 3500 patients have fully recovered.
Addressing a press-conference, the minister said that the dengue epidemic has been significantly controlled due to effective measures taken by the KP government.
The Public Health Ordinance has been approved in province for the first time in the country’s history under which the Public Committee was analysing and working on a comprehensive mechanism to control dengue virus and other infectious and viral diseases, he said.
Directives have been issued to all BHUs (basic health units) of KP to adopt precautionary measures for control of dengue and others viral disease, he added.
The cooperation of masses was imperative for the control of dengue, he said, adding that special teams have been constituted by the KP Health Department which was busy in fumigation and anti-dengue sprays.
Open water tanks in 75,000 houses have been covered in the affected areas of Tehkal, Peshtakra and others areas, he said.
Additional doctors, medical experts and paramedics were recruited for effective control of dengue diseases and directives were issued for countering dengue virus in other districts of KP besides Peshawar, he informed.
He also lauded the assistance provided by the Punjab government for providing treatment to dengue patients.
