Trade unions to protest for better wages

About 20 major trade unions of the country on Sunday decided to stage a sit-in at Faisal Chowk on May 24 for increasing wages of the labourers from Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000. This was announced by Pakistan Labour Party (PLP) Spokesman Farooq Tariq, National Trade Union Federation Chairman Yousaf Bloch, Habib Bank Workers Action Committee President Mukhtar Bokhari at a press conference in the Lahore Press Club.
They demanded restoration of the dismissed workers of Habib Bank and Pakistan Telecommunication Limited and added that all privatisation programmes and contract systems be eliminated. The rally would begin at the General Post Office Chowk and end at the Faisal Chowk. A large number of workers from various fields including railways, paramedics, telecommunication, post-office, transport and banks are expected to participate the rally.
