DERA BUGTI: Protests continued on Tuesday across the country over a military campaign in Myanmar that has forced tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslims to flee across the border to Bangladesh.
Violence over the past few days in Myanmar’s Rakhine state has killed nearly hundreds of people and prompted thousands of Muslims to flee into neighbouring Bangladesh.
In Dera Bugti, hundreds poured into the streets in a government-sanctioned protest against Myanmar’s genocide against the persecuted Rohingya minority. A large number of people including tribal elders and civil society took part in the protest where they demanded that the government should end diplomatic relations with the Burmese government.
In Swabi, a large number of people took to the streets against the persecution of Rohingyas and blocked the roads for traffic and demanded an end to the genocide of Muslims. The participants of the rally were holding placards, demanding international community to take notice of the brutalities against Muslims in Myanmar.
In Ghotki, the political leaders and students staged a protest demonstration and demanded an end to the killings of innocent Muslims. They also chanted slogans against the Burmese government.
In Khapro, the students of private schools and teachers staged a protest demonstration, while the lawyers also took out a protest rally in Khanewal town against the persecution of minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry deplored the violence against Rohingya refugees and called for an investigation of the reported massacres.
