The Nankana Sahib District Council Hall turned into a fish market during the speech of an opposition chairman as he tried to submit a resolution in the Zila council demanding the construction of Guru Nanak University in Nankana Sahib, which had been shifted to Muridke in District Sheikhupura. The PTI Chairman named Rana Afnan first asked to be handed a mike so that he could speak on the issue and after being denied the right repeatedly, he took went to the speaker stage to record his protest.

However, as soon as he reached the stage he was attacked by PML-N workers sitting in the audience seats. After a brief scuffle other chairmen rushed to stop the ongoing fight. The opposition later boycotted the proceedings but were requested by the speaker of the house Rai Mansha Kharal to return to the hall which some of the the opposition members accepted but most refused.
While talking to Pakistan Today, the manhandled UC chairman Rana Afnan said that the attack was planned prior to the Zila council meeting and it was an attempt to silence the opposition members on the Guru Nanak University issue but he claimed that he and his party and fellow opposition members would  go to all extend to ensure that the university was brought back from Sheikhupura to Nankana Sahib as it truly belonged to Nankana Sahib.
