KARACHI: After Sindh government and people of Karachi rejected the provisional census results, the transgender community has also raised their concerns about the sixth Population and Housing Census.

The transgender people in Sindh have decided to join the protest of political parties against the provisional census results.

The census has shown that there is a population of at least 10,418 transgenders in Pakistan with 6,709 in Punjab, 2,527 in Sindh, 913 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 109 in Balochistan, 27 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas and in 133 in Islamabad.

President of the Sindh chapter of the Gender Interactive Alliance (GIA) Bindiya Rana said that they were heartbroken after reviewing the results. While rejecting the numbers, she also informed of the right way to identify the transgender population.

The Sindh government on Monday announced to call an all parties conference to decide the future plan of action on the issue. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Ahmed Khoro said that showing less population in census results is a conspiracy. Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) lawmaker said that this was done to make sure Sindh didn’t get a raise in its share in National Finance Commission (NFC) award.

“Sindh will fight for its rights; our concerns have not been cleared,” he said. He said that Sindh government had demanded that a photocopy of the census form should be given at every house.
