Sindh government has come forward to rescue the army and the ISI from criticism by Nawaz Sharif, saying that it is proud of these institutions. The provincial government has also urged PML-N leader to seek nation’s apology for slating the institutions. Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Sindh Minister for Information and Archives Sharjeel Memon said that Nawaz Sharif was spreading disappointment among people. He blamed the PML-N for scrapping the Charter of Democracy. Deputy parliamentary leader of PPP in Punjab Assembly Shaukat Basra, Sindh MPA Fiaz Butt and Nadeem Bhutto were also present on the occasion.
“At a time when the army, the political leadership and the people must be on the same page, Nawaz Sharif is pursuing a nefarious agenda”, Memon added. He said that it was the PML-N leadership that had been getting funds from Osama bin Laden to topple the then PPP’s government. “Nawaz Sharif must not forget that it was funding from same secret agencies, he is criticising today, that helped his party make an alliance with right-wing parties under the IJI in early 1990s”, he added. Replying a question, he said that it was a wrong impression that the PPP had always been an anti-army political force.
