ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned four civilian members of the joint investigation team (JIT)—that probed the Sharif family’s assets in the Panamagate case—to record their statements on Wednesday.

Sources privy to the development informed Pakistan Today that four civilian members of the JIT would appear before a NAB Rawalpindi investigation team to record their statements, while officials of intelligence agencies, Brigadier (retd) Numan Saeed of ISI and Brigadier (retd) Kamran Khursheed of the MI, would not record their statements,” said sources. However, a decision whether or not to record the statements of the non-civilian members of the JIT will be taken in the next 24 hours.

They said the four members— Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director Wajid Zia, State Bank of Pakistan’s official Amir Aziz, Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s (SECP) official Bilal Rasool, and NAB Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi—will appear before the accountability court as witnesses against the Sharif family.

The sources further said that these four witnesses will verify the JIT report, and then the NAB Rawalpindi will submit a draft of reference against Sharif family by August 31, 2017. They said NAB Rawalpindi has been finalising the draft of the said reference on the advice of NAB chief Qamar Zaman Chaudry. Subsequently, the NAB Prosecution and Operation wing will review the draft and will present the draft of the reference before the executive board of NAB.

Moreover, after getting the approval of the executive board of NAB, NAB Rawalpindi and NAB Lahore will file references with accountability courts.
