ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Monday, adjourned the hearing of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) plea challenging the contempt of court proceedings by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against Imran Khan till tomorrow.
Justice Aamer Farook of the IHC heard the petition filed by seeking an end of contempt of court hearings by the ECP against PTI chief Imran Khan with regards to the “foreign funding” case being heard by the apex court.
The counsel for Akber S Baber apprised the bench that the ECP had already dismissed the PTI’s request to stay the contempt of court proceedings. A new application should have been filed by the PTI in the IHC against the ECP decision, he added.
The bench questioned as to whether it was appropriate for the court to hear the case, which was already being heard by the Supreme Court. A divisional bench of the same court had also heard an identical petition of the PTI earlier, it was further stated.
Since PTI’s counsel Anwar Mansoor could not appear before the court, the bench adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.
It may be mentioned here that the ECP had served a contempt of court notice to PTI chief Imran Khan on August 16 for accusing the Commission of having a bias in the hearing of the case.
