PFA starts crackdown against cold drinks supply in schools

LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has started crackdowns in schools and madaris and issued warning notices to 15 institutions over having carbonated cola and energy drink at its canteens.

According to PFA spokesman, a special team led by PFA DG Amin Mengal checked 79 schools and 14 madaris of the provincial capital, while Jamia Ashrafia was awarded Rs 10,000 prize over clean conditions.

After the issuing of warning notices, the canteens of the institutions would be sealed for continuing to sell cola drinks.

The teams also inspected 37 schools of Multan, 39 of Rawalpindi, 49 of Faisalabad and 29 of Gujranwala and served warning notices to the schools having cola drinks.

It may be noted that the PFA had decided to impose a ban on the sale of all types of soft and energy drinks at educational institutions across Punjab from August 14.

The authority had also issued instructions to all beverage manufacturing companies that they cannot supply cold drinks to any of educational institution. The authority had also barred beverage manufacturers to supply all soft and energy drinks to shopkeepers, canteens and drink corners in 100 metres of educational institutions.
