Indian legendary actor Amitabh Bachan is under the Income Tax (IT) radar as they look to close their grip on the people named in connection with offshore companies stated by the Panama papers.

According to reports of Indian newspapers, the tax department has already sent a top-level officer to the British Virgin Islands to gain complete information.

The British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean is considered to be among several tax havens.

The IT department has also launched 33 prosecutions linked to names revealed in the Panama Papers and is probing others.

Several film stars, politicians and businessmen were named in the Panama Papers leaks. Bachan has denied the offences and has maintained that his payments abroad were in line with Indian procedures.

India has joined a global task-force on shared intelligence and collaboration to pursue progress on the Panama Papers investigations.
