LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association has announced to call off its 15 days long strike across Punjab after a successful dialogue with Punjab government.

YDA’s strike ended on Tuesday after successful talks with the Punjab government, while the protesting doctors also announced to return to outdoor patient departments (OPDs) on Tuesday.

On August 1, the young doctors initiated protest rallies demanding the reinstatement of all the sacked doctors, the appointment of ad-hoc doctors on a permanent basis and reviewing of the Centralized Induction Policy.

The provincial health department had sacked more than 70 doctors on the recommendation of disciplinary committees constituted by the administration of healthcare institutions to create deterrence against the practice of observing strikes at hospitals, which was taking a heavy toll on patients. Salaries of eleven lady doctors were deducted while 900 new doctors were inducted.

The sacked doctors belonged to various hospitals, including Lahore General Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Services Hospital Lahore, Shaikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan, Allied Hospital Faisalabad and Aziz Bhatti Hospital Gujrat.
