LONDON: South West Trains have said a “signal failure and operational incident” was affecting services.

Ten platforms are already shut as part of engineering works to enlarge the station’s capacity.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) said it checked over three people but nobody was injured when the train partially left the tracks.

A points problem is being investigated between Vauxhall and London Waterloo. It’s causing disruption to journeys between these stations. This is expected to continue until lunchtime. This comes on top of the work being done to upgrade the station – which has meant reduced services for passengers.

It means that South West Trains are unable to use one of the 5 lines into and out of the station. This is expected to cause some delays to services, while trains use the available lines. In addition, South West Trains are investigating a problem near Waterloo station, which is expected to cause some further delay.

The ongoing £800m engineering project will get the station ready for longer trains and provide space for 30% extra passengers during the busiest times of the day.

The station is usually one of the busiest in the UK with an average of 270,000 journeys made to and from it each day.

An SWT statement has been issued which reads: “Due to a fault with a set of points and an operational incident between Vauxhall and London Waterloo, train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
