2,800 basic, rural health centres to be upgraded in Punjab

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has decided to upgrade over 2,800 Basic Health Units (BHU’s) across the province, including Rawalpindi.

According to media reports, Punjab government, in order to control the daily increase in the number of patients in government hospitals, and provide state of the art health facilities to the citizens, has decided to upgrade and equip 2,500 BHU’s, and 315 Rural Health Centres (RHC’s), with modern equipment in all the districts of the province.

Punjab government has allocated funds over the amount of Rs 1.25 billion for this purpose.

Before upgrading the health centres the facilities already available there will be reviewed, and the centres which are found lacking the facilities will be upgraded first.

The concerned authorities have sought the details of available facilities in BHU’s and RHC’s operating in all the districts.

According to the sources, as many as 176 basic and rural health centres are functioning in Rawalpindi and majority of them are lacking facilities.
