A six-member Indian delegation of writers and poets arrived from India to take part in the Alhamra Literary and Cultural Conference 2011 on Friday. The members of the delegation along with literary figures from Karachi and Islamabad presented their lectures and papers in the conference.
The delegation consisted of Professor Shamim Hanfi, Professor Akhtar-ul-Wasay, Dr Shabnum Ishai, Dr Siddiqur Rehman Qidwai and Jayant Parmar. Professor Shamim Hanfi received his doctorate from Allahbad Univeristy and is part of the Ghalib Institute. He has more than 30 books and 90 research papers to his credit. Professor Akhtar-ul-Wasay has been associated with education and has received the Maulana Mohammad Ali Johar Award and the Sir Syed Khan Award for his work.
He has written about 10 books and several columns on Islamic studies. He is the head of Islamic Department in Jamia Millia Islamia in India. Khalil Mamoon is associated with the All India Radio (Delhi) and Kannar literature. He has translated the works of Shehrezad into English. He has two collections of poems and one collection of ghazals. He has also written poetry along the Sufi tradition of Kashmir.
Dr Shabnum Ishai has done her PhD and MA from Aligarh University and is known in association with the Srinagar Radio newscasting service. She has two collections of poems, “Mein Sochtee Hoon” and “Akeli”. Dr Siddiqur Rehman Qidwai has been teaching at the Jawarlal Nehru University in the Department of Education since 1960 to 2001. He is known for his association with the field of education and literature and has written many essays and columns.
Jayant Parmar is known as a poet, an artist and a calligrapher. He has four collections of poetry in Urdu while he has also produced poems in Gujrati too.
