LAHORE: A session court on Wednesday directed Punjab Police to provide security to Ayesha Ahad, who claims to be the wife of MNA Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, in the wake of her claims of receiving life threats from Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.

Ayesha, through her lawyer Ali Zia Bajwa, approached the court seeking directives for Punjab Police to provide round-the-clock security to her. She further requested the court to restrain the provincial minister from harassing her.

She submitted that she had been receiving life threats from the minister since she served a defamation notice on him for using objectionable language against her. She said she was being persecuted at his instances for speaking up for her rights.

Ayesha told the judge that she feared for life as people clad in police uniform and civil dresses were roaming around her house and would often follow her whenever she went out.

After the initial hearing, the court directed Punjab Police to provide security to her and submit a response to her complaint on next hearing.

The hearing was put off till Aug 10.

Ayesha had earlier served a defamation notice to Rana for uttering derogatory remarks against her.

Calling for an unconditional apology within seven days of the receipt of the notice, she said that the law minister made a false and malicious statement before the media on August 6 by levelling fallacious and scathing allegations against her.

It further asks for Rs 200 million as compensation amount for damages caused by the minister’s statement.

Over non-compliance, the notice warned the provincial minister of legal proceedings against him.

Ayesha Ahad, a lady who claims to be the disowned wife of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, has been claiming that Hamza married her back in 2010.

She lamented that the incumbent PM formed a parliamentary committee to launch a probe into former PTI leader Ayesha Gulalai’s allegations but no committee or inquiry was set up acknowledge her allegations.
