In spite of all talks to improve the lot of the poor, the common man is being grinded in the mill of inflation. During the last two years, the prices of consumer goods have shot up by 30 to 60 percent .The fact is supported by the chart of living index published in various newspapers.
The unchecked spiral of growing prices has adversely hit the salaried people. The rates of services like transport, telephone and electricity have also increased. There has been no proportionate increase in the wages of the workers, the salaries of government servants or those of the people serving in the private organisations.
Inflation is affecting the life of poor people. Due to inflation, the rates of suicide, crimes and street crimes are increasing day by day. Inflation is indeed a curse and a sure sign of a bad economy. Unless the government cuts down its expenses and stops unproductive programs, nothing much can be done. I hope the government will keep this in mind when designing the upcoming budget because it is making the life of the common man difficult.
