- Bilawal says upset on how a lawmaker is verbally attacked for raising her voice
The way lawmaker and former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ayesha Gulalai has been (verbally) attacked for raising her voice is upsetting, said Bilawal Bhutto, chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party.
“If we want women to progress, we should [at least] not malign them for raising their concerns,” he said while talking to journalists. He said that comments such as those making rounds should not be hurled upon women – their families – who come forward.
Bilawal said that an impartial probe should be conducted in the allegations, without involving politics. About the parliamentary committee formed to probe allegations levelled against Imran Khan and Naeemul Haq, he said he did not know much about the panel.
However, he said that there was a law on sexual harassment that suggests such committees. He made it clear that he would not allow his party members to do such kind of politics. He said that PPP has always tried its level best to protect rights of women.
Talking to journalists, Senator Sherry Rehman also said that the allegations should be probed in a fair manner. “Women do not level such allegations if there is no substance to them,” she said. She said that the scale of justice should not be tipped against one gender.
