LAHORE: Hamza Shehbaz’s spokesperson on Sunday rubbished the allegations levelled against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader by Ayesha Ahad, claiming them to be “baseless”.

In a statement, the spokesperson, Imran Ali Goraya, said the court had declared Hamza Shehbaz innocent and Ahad was attempting to malign the PML-N leader to retaliate to Ayesha Gulalai’s allegations against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan and leader Naeem-ul-Haque.

According to Goraya, Ahad took the issue to the court in 2014 but since she could not produce evidence against the PML-N leader, the court had dismissed her appeal.

Goraya maintained Ahad’s allegations were also meant to divert the media and authorities’ attention from Gulalai’s issue.

Ahad, along with PTI leader Firdous Ashiq Awan, recently addressed a press conference where she once again claimed Hamza lied to her by saying he had divorced his wife before marrying Ahad in 2010. Ahad said she would present evidence against Hamza before the Election Commission of Pakistan so that the PML-N leader is disqualified.

Moreover, she expressed displeasure over the fact that a panel was formed to probe Gulalai’s case, but no such action was taken for her.

Ahad was referring to the special parliamentary committee to be formed over the motion National Assembly passed on Friday to investigate allegations levelled against Imran and Naeem by Gulalai.
