Lawyers as well as the Young Doctors Association (YDA) observed Black Day on Thursday to condemn the May 12, 2007 killings in Karachi in which more than 45 people were killed.
Lawyers, on the Punjab Bar Council’s call, wore black bands and boycotted court proceedings in the Lahore High Court (LHC) as well as its subordinate courts. The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) also held a general body meeting in the Aiwan-e-Adl bar room. LBA also held a rally from the Aiwan-e-Adl to Post Master General Office (PMG) Chowk. LBA President Shahzad Hassan Sheikh, Nouman Qureshi, Attaullah Salahi, Atif Tahir, Sultan Ali Dogar and Dr Hamid Saeed said May 12 was a black day.
The speakers also recalled the wrong treatment meted out to the lawyers during their movement for independence and the restoration of the judiciary. They condemned the steps taken by the former rulers and demanded former president Pervez Musharraf be tried for the incident.
