ISLAMABAD: National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW) strongly condemned the decision of a jirga on the heinous act of sexual abuse in Multan.
NCSW Chairperson Khawer Mumtaz remarked that the rule of law and the court system is properly established in the country and crime should be trailed there.
She said, “Mostly Punchiat groups are established on power”, adding, the state should play its role in such cases and take action against the accused.
The chief justice had already taken a suo moto against the act which was a positive step, she said, adding that the NCSW had filed a petition against jirgas in the Supreme Court in 2012.
“We request that only two hearings of NCSW petitions has done so far, one in 2012 and the second one in 2014; it should also be considered with the suo moto”, Khawar Mumtaz said.
“Police should facilitate victims of such cases on priority and a first information report of any such inhuman act should be immediately registered under the new anti-rape law so that culprits should be taken to task”, she said.
