The police recovered a five-day-old baby after he was allegedly sold by his father for Rs15,000 in Tando Allahyar.
The police quoted a resident of Madina Colony as saying that her husband Abdul Ghafoor Qambrani is an addict, who sold their newborn baby for money to buy drugs. Police, acting upon the complaint, arrested the man, along with the couple who bought the baby. The baby was given to the mother.
But the woman involved in buying the newborn baby said they adopted the baby, did not buy him. The woman claimed of having a video which shows the baby’s mother handing him over to the family.
The statements of both the parties were recorded and investigation was started.
However, according to the police, it was illegal to buy a baby or adopt one without fulfilling legal formalities.
Nevertheless, the incidents of babies being sold are not uncommon.
In April, police arrested a woman, claiming to be a faith healer, and her husband in Muzaffargarh for selling a four-month-old. A doctor and his wife, who bought the baby, were also arrested.
The baby’s parents told the media they had taken their son to a faith healer in Jhuggi Wala area of Muzaffargarh. There, they added, the faith healer kept the child inside a room for two hours. After that she told the parents the child had died, the parents said, adding the woman had administered an injection to the child after which he fell unconscious.
