ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) former Secretary Kanwar Dilshad, on Saturday, said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will not be eligible to head Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) if he is disqualified under the Article 63 of the Constitution.

In an exclusive interview with Online, Kanwar Dilshad said under Political Parties Order 2002, Article 5, Nawaz Sharif will be ineligible to head the party once he is disqualified. He said Nawaz will have to leave the leadership of the party and cannot chair any consultation meeting of the party.

He said new facts are surfacing regarding Hudaibiya and sugar mills. “In 2013, Nawaz Sharif submitted nomination papers to contest elections and he was a defaulter in Hudaibiya mills at that time”, Kanwar added.

He said there is need to take a review of this matter as well. Kanwar said the prime minister has become dysfunctional administratively after the Supreme Court of Pakistan reserved its verdict in Panama Papers case.

He said that the verdict by Supreme Court should be announced soon so that the democratic system in the country continues to flourish.
