Japanese consulate vehicle attacked in Karachi, two injured

KARACHI: Two employees of the Japanese consulate in Karachi were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on a vehicle of the consulate in Artillery Maidan police precincts on Thursday.
The injured were identified as the consulate’s driver, Gul Muhammad, and another employee, Ghulam Haider. They were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
A police official said that in light of initial investigations, the incident appeared to be a robbery, as both employees were deprived of $2,400 and Rs 27,000 respectively.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has directed the Karachi CCPO to submit a report on the incident within 24 hours, while Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has also sought a report from the additional inspector general of the Special Branch and the CCPO.
The minister directed the CCPO to cordon off the area and ensure an early arrest of the people involved in the attack.
