Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) held a national colloquium on Thursday to sensitise the students of higher education about the theses writing and research publication’s techniques.

The seminar enabled the students to do their academic work as per international standard. It was part of a series of activities undertaken by the university to promote research culture in the country.

AIOU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui, since taking charge of his office, laid special emphasis on construction and disseminating of knowledge. He took a number of initiatives to engage the students in research-based activities, particularly those linked with community’s welfare.

Perusing a roadmap set by the VC, twelve journals were published and twenty-two national and international conferences were organised in a short amount of time. In order to facilitate the research scholars, the university’s science laboratories and country-wide library-network have been upgraded. A special financial package was given to the faculty and non-faculty members in order to motivate and inspire them to focus on research.

The four-day seminar was attended by M.Phil and PhD-level students from AIOU and other universities as well. The event was arranged by the Physics department. Addressing the opening session, the AIOU Registrar Dr Muhammad Naeem Qureshi urged the students to make best possible use of this opportunity by improving their theses-writing skill. “The purpose could be well achieved through extensive writing practices,” he said.

The opening was also addressed by Physics Department Chairman Dr Zafar Ilyas, who highlighted objectives of the event. Eminent resource persons were engaged to apprise the participants about different learning methodology.
