  • Nawaz presides over consultative meeting at PM House
  • Legal, constitutional experts share about future strategy

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has summoned a session of the federal cabinet on Thursday (today) in the midst of the heated political environment following the Joint Investigation Team’s final report.

During the meeting, the prime minister would take the cabinet members into confidence regarding the ongoing political situation. There is a high possibility that the JIT report would be reviewed besides financial situation of the country.

On Wednesday, the prime minister presided over an informal consultative meeting where he was briefed by legal and constitutional experts about the preparations of the government’s stance on the JIT report, a private TV channel reported.

The meeting decided to take up the matter of unwanted remarks against government functionaries in the Supreme Court, asking on what grounds were such comments made, the channel reported. The political situation heated up after the JIT submitted its final report to the Supreme Court in relation to the Panama Papers case.

The JIT report recommended filing of a reference against Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The JIT has observed major disparities in the finances of the Sharif family and their known and declared sources of income.

The opposition parties reiterated their demand for the resignation of the prime minister, while the ruling party said that they would completely contest the report in the apex court. The Pakistan Muslim League-N had expressed reservations over the JIT repot and called it a biased report.

  1. Why doesn’t he go to the Parliament? He doesn’t have the moral authority now to hold Cabinet meetings. This is called Divine Intervention but with his limited mental capacity he doesn’t get it.
