-GCU Faisalabad and NCBA&E to resolve the matter
LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has taken a serious notice of students’ protests against the Indus International Institute (III), Dera Ghazi Khan, regarding their degree and the affiliation issues. The PHEC has directed the III, Government College University Faisalabad and Lahore’s National College of Business Administration & Economics (NCBA&E) to resolve the matter immediately.
It had also directed these institutes to address the concerns of students in the light of decisions taken in the meeting of a committee constituted by Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gilani.
Moreover, it has been learnt that separate letters have also been written by the PHEC to the three aforementioned institutions for an immediate compliance and has sought report by July 20.
The letters sent to the institutes read, “The NCBA&E will verify results and records of 224 out of 417 students as per their list, and will continue the education of the students who have been issued with registration numbers the college; whereas the studies of 193 students who were not provided with registration cards will be completed through crash courses in a short span of time by the NCBA&E and GCU Faisalabad, without any type of financial burden on students.”
The letter further stated, “The result/mark sheets of all the students will be verified by the NCBA&E and GCU Faisalabad and their studies will be continued without further delays to verification of their results.”
It is pertinent to mention here that studies of students will be restored from the point of withdrawal of affiliation. Students of the Indus Institute were demanding future security following the cancellation of their affiliation with the GCU Faisalabad and NCBA&E. The Institute got re-affiliated with Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) which was also cancelled by GCUF later on. The students of Indus Institute started protesting against the management of Institute, upon which the government took a notice and constituted a committee to probe further into the matter.
The committee recommended safeguarding the future of students on an immediate basis.
Hundreds of the III students hailing from different disciplines, including Mass Communication, Business Management, Environmental Science, Economics and Microbiology, staged a protest last week in front of the house of Hafiz Abdul Karim-the chairman of the III and a sitting Member of National Assembly (MNA) from the ruling party, demanding a stern action against those responsible for putting the future hundreds of students on stake.
