A copy of an application circulating on social media, from President Joint Christian Action Committee Akram Waqar Gill directed at SHO Aabpara Police Station, demands registering an FIR against, and following up with, arrests of Federal Minister for Water and Power and Defense Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Barrister Zafarullah.
The applicant Gill pleads that during a press conference at Press Information Department (PID) on 10th of July 2017, the aforementioned people compared and mirrored PM Nawaz Sharif with Hazrat Isa (A.S), which was taken as blasphemous to the Christian community.
The application reiterates that the comments passed during the press conference were inappropriate and they hurt the sentiments of the Christian community.
It was furthered warned that if no action was taken against the ‘culprits of blasphemy’, the Christian community would go to any limits to defend their religion against hate speech and disrespect, which was their natural ‘right’.
