At least four militants were killed and five others injured when a US drone fired two missiles at a vehicle in the Baghar area of South Waziristan on Tuesday, and a journalist on the hit list of a feared militant leader was killed by a remote-controlled bomb planted in his car.
Reports from Wana, headquarters of the South Waziristan Agency, said a vehicle with several militants onboard was targeted with two missiles in Baghar. The vehicle was blown to pieces, and four militants were killed and five injured. The identity of killed and injured militants could not be ascertained immediately, however they included foreigners.
Soon after the attack, a large number of militants gathered at the scene, cordoned off the area and moved the dead and injured to an undisclosed location. The area is under the control of Mullah Nazir, a close aide of Hafiz Gul Bahadar, who runs the Data Khel region of North Waziristan. Both Nazir and Bahadar are known to provide shelter and support to a large number of foreign militants and militants from other areas of the country.
Nasrullah Afridi, 38, who had been working for the state-run Pakistan Television and several newspapers in Khyber Agency, died when his car exploded in Peshawar, local police chief Liaquat Ali told AFP.
