Like Zia, Nawaz Sharif will soon be thrashed and forgotten: Kaira

LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) once again flexed its muscles in Lahore – the stronghold of Sharif brothers.

A rally was held at Mall Road to mark the black day against the Martial Law of military dictator Zia-ul-Haq who had toppled the government of the first elected prime minister of Pakistan Zulfikar Ali Bhutto some 40 years ago on the same day.

Led by PPP’s central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira, the rally started from Faisal Chowk and culminated at Nasir Bagh, with a large number of PPP’s workers including its Lahore chapter leadership also participating in the black day rally. Addressing the rally at Nasir Bagh, PPP’s Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira came down hard on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and said that the name of Sharif will become a forgotten part of history in the next elections, just like today when no one is here to take the name of military dictator Zia-ul-Haq.

“The progressive and developing Pakistan came to a halt when Zia imposed his military rule by toppling the democratic government of Bhutto. No one is here to take the name of Zia but Bhutto still lives in the hearts of millions of Pakistanis and people mark 5th July as black day every year,” Kaira said. He further added that Nawaz Sharif was planted by Zia-ul-Haq in the politics and the time is not so far when the names of Zia’s companions will also be thrashed away from the history of Pakistan. “They are crying on the appearance of Maryam Nawaz before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) despite the fact that they themselves kept Benazir Bhutto and other female prisoners of PPP in the male prisons,” he said.

PPP’s information secretary Chaudhry Manzoor said that 5th July reminds us of the day when this country was thrown into the fire of sectarianism, ethnicity, and terrorism by the military dictator Zia-ul-Haq. “The independent foreign policy of Pakistan was compromised and democracy in the country also suffered a lot as a result of Zia’s Martial Law,” Ch Manzoor said. He further added that sectarianism and all such evils were brought in the politics of Pakistan by PML-N, whereas PPP is still fighting the remains of Zia-ul-Haq as both Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan are the products of dictatorship.

PPP’s Lahore President Aziz-ur-Rehman Chan said that PPP is the only party that will defend Pakistan and democracy as its leadership has given numerous sacrifices to strengthen democracy in the country. It is worth mentioning here that Mall Road was flooded with black banners inscribed with anti-Zia slogans and poetry while PPP’s workers were holding placards and flags of their party.

PPP’s Lahore leadership including Aslam Gill, Barrister Amir Hasan, Ali Badar and Israr-ul-Haq Butt were also present on the occasion.
