LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Information & Culture Mian Mujtaba Shuja has said that Provincial Information & Culture Department has prepared a comprehensive framework of art & culture policy.

Addressing a briefing session held to review art & culture policy framework at Committee Room of Alhamra Arts Council, he said that the purpose of this cultural policy is to promote historic cultural heritage as well as project the rich asset of our country before the world. It is also hoped that this policy would keep the youth fully informed about various features and facets of culture besides helping to project their talents so that the social norms of equality, peace and harmony and peaceful co-existence are fully projected in the society, he said.

Information & Culture Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, Board of Governors of Alhamra Arts Council Chairman Abdul Malick, Press Secretary to CM Shoaib Bin Aziz, Information & Culture Shahid Iqbal, Director Arts Council Additional Secretary Capt. (R) Atta Muhammad and other officers attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the art & culture policy framework has been divided into five parts. Sufficient resources would be provided to promote the institutional mechanism of art & culture. He said that a peaceful environment of social tolerance will be promoted through cultural activities, promotion of education and media projection besides splendid traditions of cultural heritage, the minister said. He said that cultural activities will be arranged to highlight the talent of youth, with the right atmosphere provided for this purpose in the province.

The minister was informed that the aim of the cultural policy is to promote a peaceful environment and culture of tolerance in the society. He said that Punjab is a multi-civilisation region where cultural activities have been there for centuries. He said that the new art & culture policy will not only help to sustain the cultural traditions of Punjab but also promote them at international level.

He said that under the patronage and guidance of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cultural assets of Punjab are being projected and the Provincial Information & Culture Department has taken important steps in this regard to project Punjab as the cultural centre of Asia. He said that the Provincial Information & Culture Department has attained important achievements in introducing fine art among youth at the basic level.
