Assault on journalist: Badin police arrest suspects

BADIN: The drugs peddlers, who tortured Badin journalist Raja Shakeel Ahmed Ghanchi, were arrested during a raid conducted by the Badin police, led by Badin Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi.

Earlier, the delegation of Badin Press Club and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), including senior journalists Shoukat Memon, Haji Khalid Mehmood Ghaman, Raja Shakeel Ghanchi, Abdul Shakoor Memon, Sawan Khaskheli, led by Badin Press Club President Tanveer Ahmed Arain, has called on Badin SSP Abdul Qayoom Pitafi at his office on Tuesday and expressed their grave concerns over delay in the arrest of the culprits and drug peddlers.

Meanwhile, they also shared their deep concerns over the registration of the fake cases over the journalist of Matli, Ghulam Rasul Mazari and journalist of Tando Bago, Ghulam Rasul Bhan.

Abdul Qayoom Pitafi assured the journalists that the drug peddlers involved will be arrested within a day and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The journalist from Badin was assaulted by two alleged drug peddlers, on the second day of the Eidul Fitr, for publishing news about their illegal activities.

Notorious drugs peddler, Achar Mallah along with his acquaintance attacked the senior journalist, Raja Shakeel Ahmed Ghanchi, at his house in Badin.

The accused, reportedly, knocked at the house-door of the journalist and began beating him after he came outside and threatened him of the harsh consequences if he published news against them again.

Badin police had lodged an FIR against the drugs peddlers on the complaint of the journalists.

After the incident, the local journalists had called an urgent meeting at the Badin Press Club, presided over by Badin Press Club President Tanveer Ahmed Arain, to discuss the security of journalists.

The meeting was attended by many senior journalists, including Shoukat Memon, Allah Rakhyo, Naeem Mallah, Anees Memon, Abdul Shakoor Memon, Murtaza Memon, Abdul Majeed Mallah, Abdul Latif Zargar, Sawan Khaskheli, Altaf Shad Memon, Ashfaq Ahmed Memon and others.

They had condemned the attack and had appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan, Sindh IGP and others for taking an immediate notice of the matter and provide protection to the journalist and arrest the drugs peddlers as soon as possible.
